     Main directions of the activity:

• science basics for the creation of a new fan type for mines, pits, and underground;
• design of axial fans for mines, pit, and underground;
• technical and economic basing of the fan usage effectiveness;
• modernization of the main fans in mines, pit, and underground;
• automation of methane-containing control, main fans and air-distribution control in a mine;
• familiarization with the production of an axial-fan with changeable and pivot on the move vanes of the runner; 
• development of mathematical models and machine programs to solve problems of aerogasthermodynamics and mine ventilation.

The Institute does the development work to improve the underground tunnel ventilation for Siberia conditions. Also it develops new fan units and microprocessor means for the fan (under construction) control automation (Novosibirsk, Omsk, Krasnoyarsk).  

The mathematic-economical modeling method in the works of the Institute has shown that it is necessary to develop and master the production of controlled and reverse-on-the-move axial fans. It will reduce the expenses and increase the effectiveness of ventilation in the undergrounds under construction. The machinery should be produced for different pressure levels (low, medium, and high).

The Institute has worked out the recommendations for the ventilation design in the underground and construction documentation.

Also it has produced a pilot batch of eight controlled and reverse-on-the-move axial fans that have equipped four air-ventilation chambers of Novosibirsk underground. To develop this sphere of the Institute activity scientific grounds of new tunnel fans creation were made, the construction documentation of the main machines was worked out. It was then passed to the city engineering plants there the production was mastered. 

The second direction of the Institute activity is the development of mine fan-building in Russia. It is acute, because the most part of the mining machine-building has stayed in Ukraina, and mining enterprises are poorly equipped with fans, including those imported from China, Spain, and other countries.

The Institute scientific research and developments concerning controlled and reverse-on-the-move axial fans made for the mine main airing enjoy the support and have orders from coal producers in Russia. In Kuznetsk Basin in two mines the plants are built with the Institute fans, which production is mastered at the Ural factories. This direction of activity gave themes for one doctoral thesis and three Ph.D. theses defended in 2005-2006.

To test the full-scale models of a fan and microprocessor controlling means a testing stands were made at the producer factories. They are equipped with hardware and software packages of the calculating-measuring means to conduct experimental research and work up the results.
