The Siberian branch of Russian Academy of Science

The Siberian branch of Russian Academy of Science (the SB of RAS) was founded in 1957 by the initiative of academicians Lavrentyev M.A., Sobolev S.L., Khristianovich S.A. The SB of RAS is a regional union of research, experimental-design, and production enterprises of RAS, and also of departments that provide for the functioning of the scientific centers situated in Siberia – seven regions, two territories, and four republics. The total area is 10 mln. square km.

Scientific centers of the SB of RAS are in Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Yakutsk, Ulan-Ude, Kemerovo, Tyumen, Omsk. Some institutes work in Barnaul, Chita, Kyzyl. In the SB of RAS there are 74 research and 13 construction and technological enterprises that work in the fields of physico-mathematical, technical, chemical, and biological sciences, the Earth science, humanitarian and economic sciences. About the half of the Branch potential is in Novosibirsk scientific center.
